Travel to Laos

Land-locked and thick with forests, Laos has one of the highest mountains in Southeast Asia (Phou Bia, 9,242 feet) as well as plains and plateaus. Until 1988, tourists were not allowed in Laos, but the country has now opened its doors, allowing visitors to see the entire country. In 1993, the government set aside 21% of the nation's land as preserved national park system called the National Bio-Diversity Conservation Areas (NBCA) That landmark decision could create the most comprehensive national park systems in Southeast Asia.

The capital of Laos, Vientiane, is more like a big village than a crowded Asian hub, and life throughout the country is slow-paced. Especially rewarding is the experience of dining outside one of the makeshift restaurants that are set up every evening on the banks of the Mekong river, tasting the delicious grilled fresh fish and watching the famous Mekong River sunset.

Most people who come to Laos also make a stop in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed city, Luang Prabang, which is Laos’ ancient royal city. With its dozens of Buddhist monasteries and temples, its one-of-a-kind night market, the stunning views from Mount Phousi, and its variety of quaint inns, this is a destination not to be missed.

Near Luang Prabang is the mysterious Plain of Jars. This is a large area where huge jars are scattered around, their unknown origin and shear size perplexing scientists and tourist alike.

Here especially, a recognized tour company can make the experience more fulfilling enjoyable and hassle-free.
